Swatch of the Day: Kitschmas vs. Milk

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

I’ve been wanting to compared these two since I got Kitschmas a few months ago :)

MAC Kitschmas Pigment
Description: Light airy shimmering pink/mauve pearl (Frost, permanent)

MAC Milk Pigment
Description: Frosty pale silvery pink (LE: Hello Kitty)

Kitschmas is in the vial on the left, Milk in the full jar on the right.

When comparing them next to each other in natural light, Kitschmas appears to have a more pink tone, while Milk has a more lavender tone. Both have the same frosty & chunky texture.

Swatching Procedure: Both pigments were applied over MAC Painterly paint pot. My skintone is a MAC NW20. Photos were taken under “natural light” lightbulbs, which mimic natural daylight.

Conclusion? I tried hard, I really did! But I couldn’t find a super noticeable difference between the two once applied on my skin. Both look the same frost/glittery pinky-lavender shade to my eye.

So I would safely say that if you have one of these, you do not need both. Milk was a limited edition pigment released in the Hello Kitty collection February 2009. Kitschmas is part of MAC’s permanent collection, and has been part of many collections (my vial is from this past winter’s Mischief Makers “Cool Capers” pigment set). It will be part of the upcoming (and highly controversial) Rodarte collection, launching early this fall.

Night out!

    Swatch of the Day: Milk

    Swatch of the Day is..

    MAC Milk Pigment

Description: Frosty pale silvery pink (Limited Edition)

    milk1

Swatching procedure: My skin tone is roughly a MAC NW20. Swatches are done over MAC Painterly paint pot to provide a base, therefore results may appear different on bare skin. With pigments I do a set applied dry and a set applied wet (wetting agent being MAC Fix+).

Photos are taken in my bathroom which has “Natural Light” bulbs to mimic natural daylight. No flash is used.

I played with some of my little used purples today. I actually wasn’t planning on doing much, but then that turned into a look once I got going. It complimented my pink Chucks perfectly! And my RevvWear hoodie that I wore to keep warm.

Face – nothing (laziness streak continues! Perhaps I shouldn’t have hit the snooze button)

    Eyes

    • MAC Painterly p/p as base (Sephora flat e/s brush)
    • MAC Milk pigment all over lid (Sephora medium e/s brush)
    • MAC Up at Dawn e/s on out half of lid (239 brush)
    • MAC Parfait Amour e/s in outer V and as liner for upper lashes (239 brush, Mary Kay slanted e/s brush)
    • MAC Cloud Bound e/s as highlight (217 brush)
    • MAC Brow Finisher in Blonde, smoothed with Brow Set in clear
    • Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash mascara

    Lips

    • MAC Sweet Strawberry lipglass

The Sweet Strawberry lipglass was a lot more pigmented than I expected, and a bit strong for this look. I kept it on for pictures, and then I blotted it off and used Pink Fish Lip Conditioner for a more softer look. I probably should’ve chosen She Loves Candy, but I am trying to use all my new Hello Kitty lipglasses.

    Just a cute girly look!

    So apparently…

the second color in each Hello Kitty palette hates me. Or I was just having a terrible makeup day. Either way, I was cussing out Romping this morning in the bathroom. It’s terrible! Wouldn’t blend at all, just stuck in a big bright clump. Like WTF? Totally killed the look I was going for. Luckily, Stately Black and Too Dolly make up for the yucky Romping, and boring Yogurt. I didn’t think I’d like the Lucky Tom palette more… so happy I decided to buy it!

I have today’s and yesterday’s looks to post… minimal pictures because both were bleh days.

    Face

    • MAC Mineralize loose foundation in medium (109 brush)

    Eyes

    • MAC Painterly paint pot as base (Sephora flat e/s brush)
    • MAC Milk pigment all over lid (217 brush)
    • Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in 1999 along upper lash line
    • MAC Brow Finisher in Blonde
    • Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash Mascara

    Lips

    • MAC Fast Friends lipglass

Simple and sparkly. I was going out shooting for my photography class, so I kept it simple. One thing I realized is why I never owned a pigment before, and that is because they’re messy. I had fallout all over my face, I had to use one of my new MAC Wipes to clean it up. I even tap my brushes before applying, and that still doesn’t help.

    February 15, 2009

Face – nothing!! Was in a rush!

    Eyes

    • MAC Painterly paint pot as base (Sephora flat e/s brush)
    • MAC Yogurt e/s inner half of lid (272 brush)
    • MAC Milk pigment over the Yogurt (272 brush)
    • MAC Romping e/s outer half of lid *did not go as planned due to this e/s’s inability to blend/spread/whatever (239 brush)
    • MAC Too Dolly e/s lining under lower lashes (219 brush)
    • MAC Stately Black e/s a bit in outer V (239 brush)
    • Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in 1999 lining upper lashes
    • MAC Brow Finisher in Blonde
    • Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash Mascara

    Lips

    • MAC Lip Conditioner in Pink Fish

Looks OK in this picture, but with my eyes closed it’s a hot mess. I’m steering clear of Romping I think… I don’t know if I want to deal with it, when I have a blendable hot pink shade from Make Up Forever that I can use. I must say I am really disappointed…
