Swatch of the Day: MAC Old Gold Pigment

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

One of my favorites!! Not sure why it took me so long to swatch this, as it’s a completely fun pigment!

MAC Old Gold Pigment
Description: Frosted tarnished gold (Frost, Permanent)

This is a duochrome pigment, and looks either gold or green depending on the angle and light. The base you apply it over can dramatically change the tone, so I decided to swatch over several different paint pots.

My skintone is a MAC NW20 and all photos were taken under “natural light” light bulbs, which mimic natural daylight.

First up is Old Gold applied over Painterly paint pot.

Now Old Gold applied over Artifact, Blackground, Greenstroke, and Delft paint pots.

Blackground and Delft really brought out the green in the pigment, while Artifact enhanced the gold. Always neat to see how paint pots can change a color!

As a side note, the photo of Old Gold on macpro.com looks horrid. It looks like a muted bland pink peach. I have a calibrated monitor for photo editing, so my colors aren’t off… Another reason why I do not go off of the swatch photos on the MAC sites when looking at colors.

Happy Easter!

A highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with M·A·C shadows and liners.

Feeling a warm chill in the air…

    Saturday, December 5th, 2009

This look was for December 4, 2009. I was going out with a few friends, and it was about 20 degrees out, so quite chilly! So I figured this would be the chance to try out Warm Chill. The “Shop Your Stash” thread on specktra has really pushed me to start using stuff that I have never touched before, and Warm Chill, Bottle Green, and Goldmine were 3 products I had yet to use.

    Photo Realism Revisited

    Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Once again, another look off of my list of combinations to try! I haven’t played with the colors from the Photo Realism palette in awhile, either.

    Face

    • MAC Mineralize loose foundation in Medium
    • MAC Powder Blush in Prism

Foundation applied with 109 brush, then Prism to cheeks with 168 brush.

    Eyes

    • MAC Painterly paint pot
    • MAC Greenstroke paint pot
    • MAC Grey Range e/s
    • MAC Fresh Approach e/s
    • MAC Photo Realism e/s
    • MAC Image Maker e/s
    • Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Stash
    • MAC Brow Finish in Blonde
    • Make Up For Ever Lash Fibers
    • Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash mascara

Painterly applied as base with flat eyeshadow brush. Greenstroke paint pot applied over lid with flat eyeshadow brush. Grey Range then applied all over lid with 239, followed with Fresh Approach applied to the crease and a bit above with a 239 brush. Photo Realism with a 272 brush to highlight, and using a 219 brush, Image Maker applied under lower lash line. Stash eyeliner used on waterline.

    Lips

    • MAC Elaborate lipglass

<3 I love this palette! Just such a unique blend of colors.

    Do you smell grapes?

ACK!!!! I got to class today, and we were talking about makeup and then I realized it… I FORGOT MASCARA!!! This really bothered me, although I think no one else noticed. But it was so strange :( So… in the following pictures you will notice the lack of my normally long, clumpy lashes, LOL. Besides that, I LOVE today’s look, I am so happy with the Make Up For Ever #92. Such bold, vibrant color that I haven’t found the equal to with MAC (same with the hot pink MUFE makes)

So, even with the mascara mishap, I love today’s look, and I got many compliments, which is always nice, because wearing such bold makeup can be scary.

    Face

    • MAC Mineralize loose foundation in medium (109 brush)
    • MAC Redhead MSF (168 brush)
    • MAC Studio Touch Up stick concealer under eyes (194 brush)

    Eyes

    • MAC Painterly paint pot as base (Sephora flat e/s brush)
    • MAC Electra e/s all over lid (139 brush)
    • Make Up For Ever #92 (”Purple 92″) in outer V, into crease, and as liner (139 brush and Mary Kay slanted e/s brush)
    • MAC Crystal Avalanche e/s in crease to blend the purple (217 brush)
    • MAC Shroom e/s as highlight under brow (217 brush)
    • MAC Brow Set in clear

    Lips

    • MAC Lip Conditioner

So weird not adding mascara onto that list, just seems wrong. When I came home from class I did put some on, whew.

#92 just became one of my all time favorites, I just adore it! And it was a hassle to buy, as it’s been sold out constantly for months, so I am happy I jumped to buy it when it was available online back in December.

    On another note….

On Saturday (January 31, 2009) I did a quick simple look, and took some brief pictures. No face products, just quicky on the eyes so I could go shopping (remember, I am trying hard to use my makeup!)

    Eyes

    • MAC Greenstroke paint pot all over lid, up past crease (Sephora flat e/s brush)
    • Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil in 1999 to thickly line upper lashes
    • Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash mascara

Not meant to be spectacular, just trying to play with some new products! Greenstoke is a nice paint pot by itself, I don’t even know if I’ll use it as a base very much, probably just a primary color. 1999 is also a pretty liner, but I am finding the softness of the 24/7 pencils to be a bit annoying sometimes.

I think either tomorrow or Wednesday I am going to use Electra and MUFE #75, which is a neon pink to see how that turns out (I just saw that #75 is no longer listed on sephora.com, oh noes!), to try a look similar to today’s.
