Swatch of the Day: My MAC Pink Eyeshadows

Monday, November 30th, 2009

pinkpalette
This time around I’m swatching the eyeshadows in my “Pink” MAC palette! These are the ones that I’ve decided are “full” pinks. I have a “Pink-ish Purples” palette that I put other ones in that, to me, are not a full pink or a full purple color. Does that make sense? Probably not, but most people have unique ways of organizing their palettes to their personal tastes.

MAC Sushi Flower Eyeshadow

MAC Yogurt Eyeshadow

Swatching procedure: My skin tone is roughly a MAC NW20 (maybe NW15 since any tan is fading). Swatches are done over MAC Painterly paint pot to provide a base, therefore results may appear different on bare skin.

Photos are taken in my bathroom of the shadows themselves under “Natural Light” bubs which mimic natural daylight. Swatch pictures were taken by a window with natural sunlight.

On a neutral kick…

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I have been doing a lot of neutral looks lately.. probably a good and a bad thing. Good because out there in the “real world,” usually neutral makeup is what’s acceptable; bad because I feel like I’m neglecting all my pretty, bright colors when I have the chance to use them.

So here is a soft neutral look I did for November 29, 2009. It didn’t photograph as well as I wanted it to unfortunately, but the point gets across.

Face

  • MAC Mineralize loose foundation in Medium
  • MAC Studio Touch Up Stick Concealer in NW20
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Blonde
  • Eyes

  • MAC Painterly paint pot
  • MAC Solar White eyeshadow
  • MAC All That Glitters eyeshadow
  • MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Corrupt
  • MAC Brow Finisher in Blonde
  • Make Up For Ever Lash Fibers
  • Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash Mascara
  • Painterly applied as a base. Solar White applied to inner corners with 219 brush, and as a highlight with 275 brush. All That Glitters applied over the rest of the lid with a 239 brush. Satin Taupe applied in crease and outer V with 217 brush. Corrupt applied along upper lash line and lower waterline.

    1129closeup

It’s a very gentle that still brings some pop to the eyes, especially the Solar White in the inner corners.

And I’ll try to do a bright look soon, haha!

    Moving makeup…

    Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

    IMG_0808

I’ve seen this topic come up again and again on various forums and websites.  Obviously everyone wants their stuff to arrive safely, right?!

I had to move my stash over 1800 miles.  I didn’t have room in my car, so it had to go in the Uhaul truck, which made me nervous in more ways than one (bouncing of the truck, if something would fall and crush the makeup box, freezing due to cold temperatures…).  My solution?  BUBBLE WRAP!  And lots of it!

I am proud to say every thing made the trip safely.  The only incident, if you want to call it that, was my bottle of Cleanse Off Oil coming open and a tiny bit leaking out.  I did move from sea level to 7200 feet in elevation, so something like that was bound to happen.

(Which leads to a side note… if you go up in elevation like that… stuff will explode out of the container when you open it!  So be careful!)

For loose items like paint pots, pigments, cream bases, eyeshadows still in the pots, and lipglosses, I packed them into a small box with layers of bubble wrap.

    IMG_0810

    IMG_0811

The 15-pan palettes fit nicely into a “large” USPS flat rate box! Just a tip :) I individually wrapped each palette in bubble wrap.

    IMG_0813

    IMG_0814

Items like brush cleaner, removers, moisturizer, and foundation I stored upright in a small box and padded with bubble wrap. I also taped the lids closed on items like brush cleaner and removers to prevent excessive spilling.

    IMG_0809

All these things that I packed into smaller boxes went into a large box all together (see the first picture in this post).

My storage items and traincase went in another big box.

    IMG_0816

I keep my liners in an acrylic tray, so I removed them all and just put them in a plastic bag and tucked them in between boxes. I left my brushes in their cup and just wrapped bubble wrap around them.

    IMG_0807

    And that’s that!

    IMG_0817

This is what worked for me. If I had movers moving me, I wouldn’t have put my makeup on a truck, and would have kept it with me personally. But that’s just me. Just like I would never check makeup in baggage for a flight. Since it was my family moving me, I was more comfortable (but still apprehensive) with having my makeup collection go in the truck with the rest of my belongings.

Oh, and when I unpacked I save any bubble wrap that was still good and the boxes to use down the road! :) I just used scotch tape to secure the wrapping so it was easily removed. I think the only piece that didn’t make it was the stuff that got the Cleanse Off Oil all over it.

    Not dead, I swear!

    Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I’m finally moved and getting settled in, but with sketchy online access. But hopefully I can get back to updating! I took pictures of how I packed all of my makeup so I will make a post on my packing tips (all my stuff made the 1800 mile trip in a Uhaul safely!!), and then hopefully resume my looks of the day…

I can’t find my “normal” makeup camera, so I can’t post pictures of today’s look, but here’s a quick pictureless rundown:

    Face

    • MAC Mineralize loose foundation in Medium
    • MAC Studio Touch Up Stick concealer in NW20
    • MAC Blonde Mineralize Skinfinish

    Eyes

    • MAC Painterly paint pot
    • MAC Vex eyeshadow
    • MAC Trax eyeshadow
    • MAC Magnetic Fields eyeshadow
    • MAC Shroom eyeshadow
    • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero
    • MAC Brow Finisher in Blonde
    • Make Up For Ever Lash Fibers
    • Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash Mascara

Painterly used as a base.  Vex applied all over lid with 239 brush.  Trax applied with a 217 brush in crease and outer corner.  Magnetic Fields used to darken outer corner and outer half of crease, with a 217 brush.  Shroom used as a highlight, 272 brush.  Zero applied to lower waterline.

It was my first time using the “dreaded” Trax shadow… and I didn’t mind it!  Takes effort to blend it, but it’s not the nightmare that people on the forums make it out to be.  I have worse shadows… and it’s a pretty color to boot!

Anyways, this was just my quick “back from the dead” post.  Hopefully I will have my desktop up and running soon and will be able to get some pictures up and resume fairly normal operations!

The “I’m having a terrible week so screw it, I’m buying the rest of my list” Haul

    Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I think the title pretty much sums it up :D   Crappy week + crappy day + being close to the MAC store = just getting the rest of my list because it’ll be a highlight to crappy week.

This pretty much finish off the rest of my “wishlist” that I had going to build up my collection, minus the forever-out-of-stock mixing medium and brush belt, and a brush that apparently didn’t make it onto my order.

    • MAC Golden Lemon pigment
    • MAC Push the Edge pigment

I’m done with massive hauling for awhile now. I’m starting to feel MAC-ed out and just want to settle down and start using all these products!

I called the post office today, and it turns out my package of empty pans were sitting in the back room. Apparently, they weren’t going to deliver them?! LOL. I have no idea, but I guess they’re going to throw them in the mail for tomorrow. So eventually I should be able to press my pigments!

    Stashing the Stash

    Sunday, November 1st, 2009

My Container Store products came! Hell, I was surprised that Fedex even delivered on Saturdays, but I wasn’t about to complain. To get everything set up perfectly, I had to run to Walmart and buy an additional plastic storage drawer and some little rocks so my liners would stand up in the holder I bought.

    IMG_0714

    I ordered:

  • 6-Section Acrylic Desktop Organizer Item # 10021946
  • 14-DVD Acrylic Rack Item # 10022128
  • MAC 15-pan palettes are DVD-sized, and fit the rack perfectly. It’s designed to store things vertically, but I prefer my palettes to remain horizontal, so I had to buy some “grippers” to put on the side as the ones on it were for the vertical orientation. The acrylic is think and sturdy, definitely blowing my old flimsy DVD-turned-palette-display out of the water.

The desktop organize is perfect for all my liners, mascaras, brow products, etc. I bought some small stones for the bottom so everything would stick upright in it. Like the DVD rack, it is good quality and sturdy. It also fits perfectly on top of the DVD rack!

Before tax and shipping my order was about $18 total! I think that is totally reasonable for quality storage items. The Container Store was doing a 20% off sale deal.

Now for pictures of how I stash the stash!

I use to use a Caboodles traincase, but being semi-lazy and having a growing collection, that really did not work out. I would never put stuff back in it, and then I started to have too much stuff to fit into it. I still use it for traveling, and for storing old makeup (like my ancient Mary Kay stuff) while at home. So I graduated to a shelf on the wall, which I stacked all my palettes on. Then I saw people using DVD racks and found a rather flimsy wire one at Walmart. I was constantly worried about it getting knocked over, and I saw people on specktra.net using Container Store stuff, so I decided to check them out. The rest is history as they say! :)

    IMG_0739
That’s my counter top! That is all my MAC/makeup, besides my Hello Kitty tote bags (the free ones given out with purchases at the release) that hang on the wall that has empties and random packaging in it, and my brush roll (empty) that is on a shelf. It seems like I don’t have very much at all since it fits in such a small space!

    IMG_0740
The desktop organizer and the products! And my glasses, haha.

    IMG_0747
On top of my stack of drawers I keep my MAC Wipes, foundation, moisturizer, and Fix+.

    IMG_0741
Drawer #1 – Face products including MSFs, powder, blush.

    IMG_0742
    Drawer #2 – Pigments

    IMG_0743
Drawer #3 – Mineralize eyeshadows and depotted Hello Kitty palettes

    IMG_0744
Drawer #4 – Paint pots, paint, Fluidlines, Cream Colour Bases, eyeshadows waiting to be depotted, etc.

    IMG_0745
    Drawer #5 – Lip products

    IMG_0746
Drawer #6 – Make Up For Ever eyeshadows, Too Faced eyeshadows, sharpeners, other random crap.

Then besides all this on the counter is my brush cleaner, Prep+Prime, and liquid foundation. My brushes are (hopefully temporarily) in a cup, which I often place on a shelf to keep my cat from running away with them. I really really REALLY want the pro brush belt, but they were out of stock when I went to the pro store :( If they don’t seem to be coming in stock in the next month or so I might get another desktop organized from the Container Store and put my brushes in that. I do have the MAC brush roll, but it’s too small to store my stuff.

And that’s pretty much how I store all of my makeup!

On another note, I think USPS lost my empty pans that I had ordered :( They’ve been “out for delivery” for 4 days now, which is NOT a good sign. I plan on calling the post office on Monday and trying to get things straightened out. I’m so sad, as I was really looking forward to pressing my pigments this weekend.
